POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Worker provides quality care and maintenance of all Wheeler Clinic properties. 

 

Hourly Rate $21.00

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent plus 1-2 years of experience in performing general maintenance repairs is required. Current knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC is preferred.

 

Must have a valid CT driver’s license.

 

Physical Demands

Position requires the ability to stand, use hands and arms to manipulate or reach, and lift up to 25 pounds over 2/3 of the time, to walk, talk or hear, and lift up to 50 pounds up to 2/3 of the time, and to drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift more than 100 pounds under 1/3 of the time. The vision requirements for this position include having clear vision at less than 20 inches, clear distance vision greater than 20 feet, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus.

 

Some of the specific job duties that require the physical demands include lifting and moving heavy objects, operating a variety of gas or electric power tools, climbing on roof tops, and crawling in tight spaces in attics, basements, etc.

 

LOCATION

Bristol, CT is where the position is housed. This position will also travel to other wheeler locations as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Completes daily Maintenance Work Orders as assigned by supervisor.

Work orders to be completed per details and drawings provided. Deviation from assigned WO requires Facilities Director or Vice President of Facilities approval. 

Submits all completed work orders via work order system.

Worker may spend up to 50% of time at Hope St building and 50% time at other locations.

Identifies safety hazards while completing routine work orders and repairs immediately. If unable to repair, notifies supervisor for further instructions.

Maintains proper care of departmental tools and assigned company vehicle.

Assists with special projects (departmental moves, special event support, new program openings, office closures, etc) as directed.

Assists with conference room set-ups as directed.

Assists with ordering office supplies, distributing packages, replenishing copiers with paper and maintaining organized storage and supply rooms.

Provides back-up coverage for inter-office courier and evening custodial position.

Conducts daily tour of Hope St building to identify any issues with heating/cooling, plumbing, lighting, etc.

Coordinates activities with contracted vendors and contractors performing scheduled building maintenance and inspections. 

This position must report to work as directed by supervisor when Wheeler is closed due to inclement weather. Duties may include using snow blower, shoveling and spreading ice melt.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
