The role of the Treating Plant Lab Technician is to test treated poles for retention and identify and inspect materials to insure they confirm to company standards, in a safe manner following company procedures. 

Essential duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Change treatment charges, identify and inspect material for conformance
  • Drill charges after each treatment and test for retention in a timely manner
  • Test dry wood for moisture content
  • Test CCA wood preservative upon delivery
  • Count charges and pull tags prior to each treatment
  • Put tags on treated material after each treatment and insure piece count
  • Assist in clean-up of Treating Plant - sweeping, shoveling, wash down
  • Maintain annual Training requirements for Hazardous waste
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of treating paperwork
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Must be able to operate a forklift
  • Be able to handle and move hazardous waste drums
  • Extensive hours/overtime and weekends may be mandatory as well as unexpected shift changes. Attendance is extremely important to the function of the Treating Department
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds 

SAFETY

  • Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
  •  Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety vest, etc...as required
  • Do not enter restricted areas
  •  Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
  • Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
  • Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
  • Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
  • Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
  • Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
  • Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company handbook
