The role of the Treating Plant Lab Technician is to test treated poles for retention and identify and inspect materials to insure they confirm to company standards, in a safe manner following company procedures.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- Change treatment charges, identify and inspect material for conformance
- Drill charges after each treatment and test for retention in a timely manner
- Test dry wood for moisture content
- Test CCA wood preservative upon delivery
- Count charges and pull tags prior to each treatment
- Put tags on treated material after each treatment and insure piece count
- Assist in clean-up of Treating Plant - sweeping, shoveling, wash down
- Maintain annual Training requirements for Hazardous waste
- Maintain accurate record keeping of treating paperwork
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Must be able to operate a forklift
- Be able to handle and move hazardous waste drums
- Extensive hours/overtime and weekends may be mandatory as well as unexpected shift changes. Attendance is extremely important to the function of the Treating Department
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
SAFETY
- Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
- Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety vest, etc...as required
- Do not enter restricted areas
- Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
- Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
- Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
- Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
- Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
- Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
- Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company handbook
