Job Summary

The Service Fire Technician is responsible for conducting on-site inspections, maintenance, and preventive services on a wide variety of fire protection equipment. This role ensures that all systems comply with local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations. The inspector will identify potential hazards, provide corrective recommendations, and maintain detailed documentation to support safety compliance and continuous improvement. This position is key in protecting life and property by ensuring systems are up to code and functional.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine and preventive inspections of fire protection systems, including alarms, sprinklers, and extinguishers.

• Evaluate compliance with applicable fire safety codes and standards.

• Identify fire hazards and communicate corrective actions to facility management.

• Perform maintenance and minor repairs on various fire safety equipment.

• Maintain professionalism and deliver high-quality customer service on-site.

• Complete and submit inspection documentation, test results, and service reports accurately and promptly.

• Train less experienced inspectors on inspection protocols and procedures.

• Organize and utilize technical resources, documentation, and support for efficient task execution.

• Collaborate with safety professionals to develop or deliver fire safety training as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.

Skills:

The ideal candidate possesses a working knowledge of local, state, and national fire safety codes, along with familiarity with various brands of fire safety equipment. They demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to identify compliance issues accurately. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interpret technical documentation and inspection reports. The candidate is highly organized, with strong time-management skills, and is capable of independent decision-making and effective problem-solving. They can manage schedules, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and are comfortable using inspection software and mobile technology.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Oklahoma Commercial Fire Alarm License.

• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• NICET or ICC Fire Inspector Certification.

• Associate’s degree in Fire Science or related field.

• Two or more years of experience in installation or service of fire protection systems.

• Experience inspecting multiple brands of manufacturer fire systems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Primarily an office-based position with moderate noise; approximately 80% office work and 20% field/site visits.

• Regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with arms, talk, and hear.

• Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl during inspections or site visits.

• Frequent use of hands for typing, handling materials, and operating equipment.

• Occasional lifting and/or moving of fire panels, tools, and parts up to 35 pounds.

• Close vision, depth perception, and color vision required for inspecting devices and identifying wiring.

• Routine local travel to job sites and technicians; occasional exposure to warehouse and job site hazards including forklift traffic and fire alarm notification devices.

• Use of personal protective equipment (e.g., ear protection) required during alarm testing.

• Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock when working with panel voltage.

• Work may involve brief exposure to varied indoor/outdoor environments and job-related hazards, though not on a severe or routine basis.
