Job Details
The Shift Manager supports daily store operations by providing on-site leadership during assigned shifts and serves as an extension of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. This role rotates between supervising front-of-house operations (cashiers, customer service, voucher assistance, cash office) and back-room operations (sorting, pricing, production, and donations). The Shift Manager helps carry out the Store Manager’s direction by ensuring operational efficiency, a positive customer experience, staff and volunteer engagement, and consistent alignment with the organization’s mission and values.

- Serve as the acting manager on duty during assigned shifts
- Provide direction, coaching, and support to staff and volunteers
- Ensure staffing coverage, break compliance, and smooth shift transitions
- Model professionalism, accountability, and mission-driven service
- Supervise cashiers and customer service staff
- Ensure accurate cash handling, register balancing, and opening/closing procedures
- Address customer concerns, returns, and voucher as needed
- Oversee donation intake, sorting, pricing, and production flow
- Ensure safety standards and efficient workflow in the back room
- Monitor productivity goals and support timely replenishment to the sales floor
- Maintain organization of inventory, supplies, and processing areas
- Provide hands-on support as needed to meet daily production targets
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales floor
- Support merchandising standards and sales initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of retail or supervisory experience (thrift or non-profit preferred)
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and evenings
