Island Psychiatry is an established multidisciplinary psychiatric practice with locations in Port Jefferson Station and Huntington Station, committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality mental health care across a range of clinical specialties.

We are seeking a licensed master's-level clinician (LCSW or LMHC) for a 1099 hybrid role combining forensic psychiatric consultation with a small outpatient therapy caseload.

This Is Not a Standard Therapy Position

This role is for a clinician who wants more — more intellectual engagement, more range, and a more unusual career path. You'll work within a structured, expert-led team on serious, specialized legal work while staying grounded in direct clinical practice. It's a path that has grown organically within our team and represents one of the more distinctive opportunities available to a master's-level clinician on Long Island.

What You'll Do

As an assisting clinician on our forensic evaluation team, you'll conduct psychosocial interviews, review records, collaborate with our psychiatrists in real time, and assist in the development, organization, and refinement of high-level forensic reports and professional opinions that may be submitted to courts, attorneys, government agencies, etc.  Our process is supported by a custom-built AI workflow — active, curious engagement with technology is essential. You'll also carry a small therapy caseload; all scheduling, billing, and insurance are handled for you.

Who We're Looking For

  • LCSW, LMHC or Phd. independently licensed in New York
  • 2+ years post-licensure clinical experience
  • Strong clinical instincts and excellent writing
  • Genuinely curious about AI and comfortable with technology
  • Responsive, detail-oriented, and able to handle sensitive clinical and legal information with professionalism and care

Compensation

Percentage of collected revenue, calibrated to experience. Forensic consultation is billed at substantially higher rates than standard outpatient work — your earnings reflect that directly.
