Job Summary
The Visual Attention Lab of Brigham and Womenâs Hospital (BWH) is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow. BWH is one of the Harvard hospitals and the postdoc will have a Harvard Medical School affiliation and a hospital affiliation. Jeremy Wolfe is the lab director. The primary focus of the lab is visual search: How we find what we are looking for. At present, we are particularly interested in âLook but fail to seeâ errors, where searchers fail to respond to items that are clearly visible, âright in front of their eyesâ. These are errors that can be annoying (missed typos) or dangerous (missed cancer in an Xray). Our work is largely behavioral (including eye tracking) and includes in person and on-line studies. We do fundamental research as well as âuse-inspiredâ research, especially in the realm of medical image perception. You can learn more here. (https://search.bwh.harvard.edu/new/index.html)

Qualifications
A good candidate would have broad interests that include visual attention. We are looking for someone who would be a stimulating member of our group. The position is grant-funded so the candidate should be interested in the work we are paid to do and, at the same time, energetic enough to pursue their own, related projects. An ability to program behavioral experiments is important. We primarily use Matlab and PsychoPy for online and in person studies. Computational skills would be valuable especially if they are grounded in an understanding of human visual attention. You may have other skills and interests, not mentioned here, that would be a stimulating fit. Let us know.
The position is in-person in Boston, where you would be near to related labs at Harvard, MIT, Boston U, Northeastern, etc. In addition, you will become part of a thriving research community with multiple international collaborations. The extended lab meets on-line three times a week. Here, researchers from around the world connect to discuss their latest results and insights.
Start date can be as early as Spring, 2026 for one year with extension dependent on the availability of funds.
