Job Description:


Responsible for safely driving tenants in the facility’s vehicles to and from medical appointments as needed, up to 20 hours per week. Under the direction and supervision of Resident Care Coordinator, and/or Director of Assisted Living, perform all tasks as assigned.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Drive residents to and from designated pick up and drop off locations
  • Follow pick-up and delivery schedule as determined by Resident Care Coordinator.
  • Ensure all passengers use adequate seat belts
  • Operate wheelchair lift and secure resident wheelchairs in vehicles when appropriate
  • Performs safety checks on the facility vehicles each time before operation
  • Refuels vehicles as needed
  • Drives vehicles in a safe manner following traffic regulations
  • Assists participant riders in getting on and off the vehicles
  • Regulates heating and cooling for passenger comfort
  • Follows guidelines should an accident occur
  • Contacts RCC and/or Director of Assisted Living, as needed, to ensure a driver is available for all trips scheduled
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

Requirements

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, auto insurance with $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 Liability Coverage, and a pass an insurance eligibility and driving record check
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic regulations including following safe driving practices, obeying parking signs, and road and driving regulations.
  • Ability to pass JFSHI driver test
  • Must have genuine interest in the needs of the advanced aging, mental health and other infirmities of age, understanding the problems they encounter and have patience and tact in servicing their needs.
  • Physical Qualifications:
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks related to loading and unloading vehicle passengers and items unassisted including the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs; and push, pull, assist, maneuver and secure wheelchairs with passengers up to 400 lbs.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, climbing (stairs), and unencumbered wrist, back and hip movement.
  • Full and complete use of all limbs to operate vehicle controls.

Skills:

  • High School Diploma required;
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of regular work hours, as needed;
  • Ability to maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Possession of necessary required certifications to work in an RCAC or the ability to obtain certifications within 3 months of hire date
  • Experience in transporting seniors or wheelchair bound passengers desirable
