Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Worker I, under supervision, maintains buildings and equipment for assigned department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and service work on machinery, equipment and fixtures.

  • Performs skilled trade work including painting, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, cementing and electrical work. Performs electrical and acetylene welding, brazing and soldering.

  • Moves heavy equipment and assists in special set-ups.

  • Operates machinery such as drill press, sharpeners, table saws, chain saws, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters and other miscellaneous equipment.

  • Repairs sidewalks, sewer lines, building slabs, streets and related installations.

  • Assists in preparing floors and occasionally replaces broken or missing tile. Finishes and repairs furniture as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively use personal computer to communicate, prepare proposals to include cost information on spreadsheet as applicable, and provide reports of activities.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students and staff.
