JOB SUMMARY This position performs technical duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, HVAC and other building systems. MAJOR DUTIES Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems in county buildings and other facilities; installs electrical services as needed. Maintains maintenance and repair records. Reads blueprints, equipment diagrams, and drawings. Secures quotes for contract services as needed; monitors the work of contractors. Works with county departments to schedule and coordinate work. Makes purchases of parts and supplies; maintains receipts and prepares purchase card invoices. Installs emergency generators as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of electrical and other building codes. Knowledge of electrical system installation, maintenance, and repair principles. Knowledge of appliance maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of safe work principles and standards. Skill in the diagnosis and repair of a variety of building systems. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Facilities Maintenance Superintendent assigns work using very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include building codes and county and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied technical duties. The need to work in the presence of staff and the general public adds to the position's complexity. The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the repair and maintenance of county HVAC, electrical, and other building systems. Success in this position contributes to providing a safe and well-maintained environment for county operations. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county personnel, contractors, vendors, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, stooping, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment that require a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and uses the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. QUALIFICATIONS & BENEFITS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for three to four years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain an electrician's license.
