Position Summary
The Pharmacist Supervisor of Mail Order Pharmacy works collaboratively with members of the care team to provide high-quality pharmacy services to patients and staff while maintaining an active staff pharmacist practice. This position provides day-to-day leadership and coordination of the pharmacist team, promoting effective communication, operational consistency, and professional practice. The Pharmacist Supervisor partners with the Pharmacy Manager to support pharmacist scheduling, staff development, departmental initiatives, and continuous operational improvements while ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations.
Job Description
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides day-to-day operational leadership and oversight for the pharmacist team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmacy operations.
- Coordinates pharmacist staffing and scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and support operational needs.
- Conducts regular 1:1 meetings, providing feedback, identifying development opportunities, and supporting annual performance evaluations in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager.
- Promotes consistent communication by ensuring pharmacists are informed of departmental priorities, operational changes, and organizational initiatives.
- Supports the onboarding, training, orientation, and competency development of pharmacists.
- Serves as the primary operational resource for pharmacist staff by facilitating workflow, resolving routine operational issues, including customer service escalation and other concerns as appropriate.
- Identifies and escalates pharmacy operational issues and staffing concerns to Pharmacy Manager to support timely resolution
- Maintains active staff pharmacist practice by accurately reviewing, verifying, and dispensing prescription medications in accordance with federal and state laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Consults and educates patients, providers and healthcare staff regarding medication therapy and pharmacy services.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, operational projects, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient care, workflow efficiency, and departmental performance.
- Performs special projects, as assigned.
- Participates in occasionally leads huddles and regular team meetings to improve workflows and contribute to improving patient population outcomes.
- Assists other MPHC pharmacy departments as required, including but not limited to adherence outreach and Medication Therapy Management.
- Adds value by developing, implementing, and ensuring continuous quality improvement and process improvement to deliver effective and efficient output
- Assists Pharmacy Manager with short and long-range program planning, pharmacy policy, and audit readiness
- Responsible for notification of the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy upon hiring and cessation of employment/termination of pharmacists and technicians and other operational notifications as required by State Board of Pharmacy.
- Responsible for maintaining, reporting, and submitting all records for the dispensing of controlled substances to each state when required.
- Responsible for pharmacy biennial control substance inventory completion and proper documentation.
- Ensures policies and procedures are in compliance with board of pharmacy requirements.
- Provides regulatory direction and education to staff.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Pharm.D. or BS in Pharmacy with relevant clinic, mail order or retail setting
Licensure/certification:
- Current license to practice pharmacy in Maine
Experience:
- At least 3 years pharmacy operations experience
- Experience in a high volume, fast-paced environment
- Leadership experience
Knowledge:
- Thorough clinical knowledge of therapeutic drug utilization.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
Abilities:
- Excellent customer services skills
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills (ability to prioritize and multi-task while maintaining focus on objectives).
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with organizational leadership
- Ability to function independently with sound judgment in decision making
- Ability to take appropriate initiative while soliciting input/advice appropriately
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner.
