Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.57 (Based on education and/or relevant work experience indicated on application.)

Average 24 hours per work week

This temporary position will be assigned to DPS Prisons Administrative Services.  This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide professional nursing care and treatment in accordance with medical protocols.

  • Work independently to carry out nursing processes to offenders arriving at the Sandy Ridge Bus Terminal on transfer buses.

  • Responsible for overseeing the daily nursing care activities to include administering medications and treatments as directed by physician.

  • Responsible for appropriate treatment and medical documentation.

  • Work is performed under the general supervision of a Lead Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management Preferences: 

  • Documented knowledge in the principles and practices of nursing care.

  • Documented knowledge in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

  • Documented knowledge of medication and medical terminology.

  • Documented knowledge in communicating information to patients related to treatment and patient care.

  • Must have a current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina.
