Behavioral Health Service Coordinator

Location:  Bryan, Texas

Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Department: Clinical Staff Services

Reports To: VP, Market Operations

Overview

We’re seeking a compassionate, organized, and skilled Behavioral Health Service Coordinator to join our Clinical Staff Services team. Employed by Peregrine Health and working onsite at a HealthPoint clinic, this hybrid role combines medical assistant (MA) functions with behavioral health coordination to connect patients with timely, supportive care. You’ll be on the front lines of patient interaction—supporting Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services, psychiatric providers, and behavioral health visits through both clinical and administrative responsibilities.

In this clinical support role, you’ll actively manage and coordinate care for all HealthPoint behavioral health patients, serving as a vital link between behavioral health services, primary care, and community resources. This includes coordinating access to care, facilitating referrals, supporting psychiatric and MAT workflows, and following up to ensure continuity of services. The role requires full adherence to the policies and procedures of both Peregrine Health and HealthPoint, with a strong emphasis on integrated, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Behavioral Health and Patient Support

  • Serve as a first point of contact for behavioral health patients: greet, check-in, screen, and guide them through clinic visits.
  • Schedule and provide care coordination for psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and counseling appointments.
  • Receive and coordinate referrals to behavioral health services and community-based resources.
  • Provide follow-up calls to patients for ongoing care coordination to promote engagement and adherence efforts.
  • Work alongside behavioral health providers during visits to ensure seamless patient care and proper documentation.
  • Support MAT services by managing patient flow, tracking follow-up appointments, and providing clinical assistance to MAT providers.
  • Provide support during crisis situations, including de-escalation and coordination of urgent behavioral health needs, in strict adherence to the organization's established crisis protocol
  • Maintain complete and accurate behavioral health records in accordance with both HealthPoint and Peregrine Health standards.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities (Clinical)

  • Take vitals, collect patient history, and prep for psychiatric or behavioral health evaluations.
  • Observe and document patient self-administration of medications under provider supervision, including psychotropic medications and those used in MAT (e.g. buprenorphine)
  • Perform point-of-care testing, collect lab specimens and conduct CLIA-waived testing as directed.
  • Support providers during procedures and patient treatments related to behavioral health protocols.
  • Educate patients on medication use, adherence, and follow-up care based on provider protocols.
  • Perform first aid, CPR, and follow infection control protocols at all times.

Administrative and Operational Duties

  • Schedule appointments and manage referrals through HealthPoint’s EHR system.
  • Schedule behavioral health and psychiatry appointments; reschedule as needed to support continuity of care.
  • Complete prior authorizations for behavioral health services and medications, including psychiatric prescriptions.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records and complete documentation in the EHR.
  • Track insurance coverage, verify benefits, and confirm demographic and emergency contact information.
  • Maintain clinic and exam room supplies in alignment with clinical standards.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with Behavioral Health care teams, care navigation teams, Peregrine operations staff, and HealthPoint primary care providers to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Communicate empathetically and clearly with patients and families.
  • Collaborate with primary care teams and internal and external care partners.
  • Maintain compliance with patient confidentiality standards outlined in HIPAA and 42-CFR.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • Current MA certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • BLS/CPR certification (must be current).
  • Minimum of 1 year of MA experience, ideally in behavioral health, MAT, or psychiatry settings.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in MAT programs or supporting psychiatric providers.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health workflows, de-escalation techniques, and mental health resources.
  • Proficient in electronic medical records (eClinicalWorks) and clinical documentation.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (preferred but not required).
