Wendlings Food Service is hiring for our Delivery Driver Apprentice Program. We provide the training and opportunity to obtain class A CDL for the purpose of a position as a Delivery Driver in the Transportation Department. Through education and driving skills development, you will become proficient in the operation of a tractor-trailer combination with the goal of obtaining a full Class A license within 60 days. A.F. Wendlings Food Service will cover the initial CDL fees (one time only), DOT physical, and provide a truck for on and off route practice, as well as testing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain and foster a good relationship with the customer as a representative of A.F. Wendling Food Service Drive to and deliver customer orders according to a pre-determined route Unload products from trailer, with a two-wheeler and a ramp, and place in designated customer storage areas Verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures Collect money (cash or check) where required. Contact management for authorization concerning discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors and returns Maintain DOT logs as required throughout the day Preform pre-trip duties including, but not limited to checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries, count items and check customer invoices of orders loaded, preform DOT pre-trip inspection on provided DVIR form. Preform post-trip duties including, but not limited to unload damaged goods or customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, turn in all collected funds, park and secure truck, complete DOT Post-trip inspection on provided DVIR form and turn in to company representative 2-year commitment post class A acquisition required proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. QualificationsEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements: HS Diploma or equivalent, Must possess a valid WV Driver's License Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator Basic written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and/or as a team member Adhere to a Schedule Ability to understand and adhere to an assigned schedule Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Time Management Skills - Managing one's own time Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/carry and handle freight more than 100 lb. several times a day Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck Ability to follow instructions and complete required training Must be able to constantly bend, reach above shoulder, grasp objects, climb, kneel, squat, twist and stand throughout shift. Must be able to push/pull up to 150 lbs. occasionally Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls.
