The Budd Lake, NJ site is primarily devoted to the design, manufacturing, and marketing of Keysight’s power supply solutions. These products range from multi-kilowatt switching supplies, AC sources, 30kW regenerative power solutions, solar array simulators, to AC grid emulators up to 1MW in power.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer to design, build, and sustain automated test systems for high‑power electronic test and measurement products.  This role owns the full lifecycle of test set development: defining test concepts, architecting the measurement approach, selecting and integrating instruments/fixtures, writing and maintaining test code, and generating the documentation required to support production and quality systems.  The role includes hands‑on testing and automation of high‑voltage, high‑power power supply system’s operating up to 2 kV and megawatt‑class power levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design test sets / ATE solutions for design validation and production test.
  • Develop and maintain automated test software (test sequences, reusable libraries, drivers, and result handling) using modern frameworks and tooling.
  • Implement instrument control via standard T&M approaches: SCPI, VISA/IO libraries, and vendor drivers in common environments (Python, C#, LabVIEW, MATLAB, HTBasic, VBA).
  • Produce and maintain formal test setup/process documentation used to support production readiness and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot test failures across hardware and software: isolate issues in instruments, fixtures, wiring, DUT behavior, or code; implement corrective actions and robustness improvements.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with design engineering, manufacturing, and sustaining teams to ensure test coverage, throughput, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Plan and execute environmental testing to support design validation and qualification.
  • Drive modernization of legacy test systems (e.g., refactor/replace older test dependencies and improve maintainability).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS / MS EE (or equivalent) and 8+ years in test engineering with significant ownership of automated test systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in test set / ATE design, including integrating instruments, fixtures, and safety considerations.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple design domains including firmware, gateware, analog and digital hardware interfaces to resolve test issues
  • Experience with modern test automation frameworks and/or sequencers, including plugin-based architectures (C#, Python, TAP, MATLAB, VBA, HTBasic). Be able to create code that is clear, efficient, maintainable, and well documented.
  • Strong software skills developing automated test code and architectures (e.g., modular test steps, data logging, result evaluation, maintainable codebase).
  • Strong experience with fundamental electrical engineering principles as it relates to design validation and issue troubleshooting.  This includes a strong skill set in continuous time systems and analog design concepts.
  • Experience with design validation, firmware qualification, environmental test, production testing, and product manufacturing support.
  • Practical instrument control experience using SCPI and VISA/IO libraries, and familiarity with multi-language test ecosystems.
  • Ability to create rigorous measurement documentation (test path, equipment lists, measurement points, equations, uncertainties, and limit calculations).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with production final test systems and documentation used for quality audits / compliance (e.g., ISO17025-style measurement uncertainty and traceability documentation).
  • Familiarity with designing PCBs and fixtures for high‑power, high‑current, or precision measurement applications.
  • Experience with regenerative power supplies, electronic loads, or grid‑interactive test systems used in high‑power test environments.
  • Experience using 3D modeling tools (e.g., NX, Creo, or equivalent) for designing test fixtures and lab hardware

Due to US visa restrictions, only candidates that can legally work in the US on a continuous basis without any type of sponsorship will be considered.
