Must be willing and able to perform basic life support (BLS) at all times, including CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and rescue breathing The Assistant Unit Coordinator is directly responsible to the Director of Resident Care Services. The job duties and responsibilities are to be performed while observing the following standards: job standard (knowledge, ability, skills), technical skill, quality, quantity, judgement/problem solving, decision making, and initiative. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Introduce, observe, and supervise new procedures to CNA’s, trainees, and Hospitality Aides. Consult with nursing staff regarding nursing procedures and recommend nursing policies. Assume administrative responsibility in the absence of other administrative personnel. Supervise adherence to care plans. Coordinate interdisciplinary planning of care with all other appropriate staff. Coordinate discharge planning in conjunction with social services. Provide information and/or resolve resident care problems.Identify those components of the resident’s care plan which may be delegated to all resident care personnel and provide teaching and guidance when necessary.  Assign, re-assign staff to meet staffing needs. Interpret principles of good management to resident care personnel and implement application of these principles in daily work in cooperation with other departments, especially the Nursing Department. Assess unit needs by making periodic rounds of unit and having a visual presence on the unit at all times. Supervisor implementation of resident care for assigned residents, including evaluation and revision of care plan as indicated. Act as a liaison between residents, family members and the Nursing Department. Communicate any changes occurring with the resident to the Nursing Department in a timely fashion. Evaluate emergencies and determine emergency measures to be used and report immediately to the Nursing Department; give or direct emergency treatment required by residents or personnel; the Nursing Department will notify the physician in the case of accidents and complete incident/accident reports. Counsel/discipline resident care personnel when necessary including verbal and written warnings, and post suspension follow-up, in conjunction with the Director of Resident Care Services. Ensure the appropriate documentation of resident assessments and conditions/events as given to the Nursing Department. Assess unit needs, conditions, resources, and make changes essential to delivery of appropriate resident care services. Coordinate new employee orientation, including assessing skill proficiency, safety and competence in assuming responsibilities of position. srhpp QualificationsQualifications:  Education and Training - Current New York State Professional Nurse registration; or Licensed Practical Nurse registration. Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Interest in developing resident care and management abilities and furthering education in these areas. Experience - Previous experience as a Charge Nurse or Supervisor in long term care is helpful. Character - Must possess good moral character, compassion for the elderly, have the ability to supervise certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) and all other ancillary resident care staff. Must create/maintain good staff relationships and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Interpersonal skills - must possess the ability to communicate in a calm, non-threatening manner with residents, families, volunteers, all departments and co-workers.
