POSITION SUMMARY:

Facilitates Group Exercise classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE: 

Will be scheduled to work 2 – 5 hours in a consistent weekly schedule. Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are available. Must be available to work on weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Welcoming Environment: Create a safe and inclusive environment where individuals feel welcomed and respected. Build positive relationships with and among members and program participants.

 

  1. Class Instruction: Lead engaging, educational, and safe group exercise classes that meet YMCA program standards and objectives.

 

  1. Adaptability to Needs: Observes and adapt instruction to support participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health concerns, and cultural preferences.

 

  1. Member Support: Ask and answer questions, offering empathetic guidance to help members and participants build confidence in achieving their wellness goals.

 

  1. Encouragement and Recognition: Identify and celebrate the successes of members and participants to foster motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

 

  1. Industry Knowledge: Maintain current knowledge of wellness trends and apply this information to provide effective support and instruction.

 

  1. Cleanliness and Organization: Follow department protocols to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintain cleanliness and organization of program and work areas.

 

  1. Policy Compliance: Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, emergency response, and member engagement.

 

  1. Certification Maintenance: Maintain all required certifications and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

 

  1. Additional Responsibilities: Carries out other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certifications: National Certification in Group Fitness Instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM), certification in specific area of expertise, or YMCA of the USA equivalency certification within one year of employment is required.
  2. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI). 
  1. Experience: At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes is preferred.

 

  1. Relationship Building: Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
