Position Summary

The HVAC Sheet Metal Foreman is responsible for leading field crews in the installation of HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems on commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, quality standards, and applicable codes. The Foreman serves as the primary field leader for sheet metal operations and works closely with project management, contractors, and other trades to ensure successful project execution.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Crew Management

  • Supervise and coordinate sheet metal mechanics, apprentices, and laborers.
  • Assign daily work activities and monitor productivity.
  • Mentor and train employees on installation methods, safety practices, and company standards.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with project management.
  • Maintain positive communication with project teams and other trades.

HVAC Installation & Project Execution

  • Oversee the layout, fabrication, and installation of HVAC duct systems, including rectangular, spiral, exhaust, and grease ductwork.
  • Coordinate installation of equipment including AHUs, RTUs, fans, dampers, VAV boxes, and related accessories.
  • Ensure all work complies with project drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, SMACNA standards, and applicable codes.
  • Review plans, shop drawings, and field conditions to identify and resolve installation issues.

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, superintendents, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in scheduling and coordination meetings.
  • Identify and communicate field conflicts, delays, and design issues to project leadership.
  • Assist in planning installation sequencing and logistics.

Safety & Quality Control

  • Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure proper use of PPE and fall protection.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with project standards.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, balancing, and punch list completion.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.

Material & Equipment Management

  • Plan and coordinate material deliveries and equipment usage.
  • Verify quantities and condition of received materials.
  • Minimize waste, damage, and theft of materials and equipment.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete daily reports documenting manpower, progress, safety observations, and jobsite issues.
  • Assist with labor tracking, timekeeping, and change order documentation.
  • Maintain redline drawings and as-built information as required.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Thorough understanding of commercial HVAC systems and sheet metal installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of SMACNA standards and applicable building codes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and jobsite safety practices.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of HVAC sheet metal experience in commercial construction.
  • Previous foreman or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Union training preferred; non-union candidates should possess equivalent experience.
