Description

POSITION SUMMARY

/ The Proposal Technical Designer works across all active proposals and awarded projects as a bridge between sales and engineering. They regularly collaborate with Sales and Product Directors to create proposal layout drawings for customer projects across all product lines as well as providing engineering with a roadmap to plan their work upon project kickoff.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

/ Advising and supporting the sales team on mechanical systems for product offerings across all product lines. 

/ Collaborating with Product Directors and Customer Service to create Engineering and Sales documentation related to new business proposals and aftermarket sales. 

/ Proposing equipment solutions based on existing or innovative design concepts to meet customer specifications. 

/ Creating accurate 3D models and 2D layout drawings to illustrate Retech’s technical offerings. 

/ Collaborating with the Design team on layout once a contract is awarded. 

/ Develop new and/or improved design concepts to meet a customer’s specific requirement. 

/ Supporting the design team during implementation of these new designs. 

/ Supporting the estimating team to provide equipment guidance, cost references and Engineering hours required to complete a project. 

/ Creating and delivering presentations on equipment designs and proposal layouts both within company and with customers.

/ Collaborating with internal departments and customers to troubleshoot issues and help develop solutions. 

/ Working both independently and collaboratively to set work priorities and meet the needs of direct customers both internally and externally.

/ Traveling both domestically and internationally to customer or vendor sites as needed.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

/ Ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer and vendor sites.

/ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

/ Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

/ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

/ Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

/ Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

/ Strong working knowledge of CAD software e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, Mechanical Desktop, and similar CAD platforms. 

/ Working knowledge of Product Data Management software (e.g. Autodesk Vault, SolidWorks PDM).

/ Knowledge and ability in Microsoft Office products, including CRM.

/ Knowledge and ability in navigating and utilizing ERP.

/ Ability to read and interpret technical documents.


Education and Experience:

/ 5 years of experience with CAD software is required.

/ 3 years of experience with heavily engineered custom equipment is preferred.

/ Associate’s degree in engineering is preferred.


Personal Skills/Attributes required for the Position:

/ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

/ Willingness to collaborate with other departments such as the fabrication shop and Assembly team.

/ Thorough understanding of technical or scientific products to be sold.

/ Organized with attention to detail.

/ Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with clients.


Physical Demands:

/ The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, hear and talk.

/ The employee is frequently required to use hands. 

/ The employee occasionally will be required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. 

/ The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

/ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

/ This position may be required to work long hours extending to the weekends on some occasions. 

/ Must be able and willing to travel up to 10% to international and domestic sites for sales, installation, and customer service support.
