About the Job

ACE is seeking a skilled, dedicated, and leadership-driven General Superintendent to oversee the execution of complex infrastructure projects for our client, Spotsylvania County. Working onsite in Fredericksburg on the Spotsylvania Wastewater Conveyance Improvements Project, you’ll collaborate with project managers and field crews to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

This role combines leadership, technical expertise, and strategic oversight. As a General Superintendent, you’ll manage field operations, drive productivity, and lead a team of superintendents, foremen, crew leaders, tradesmen, and laborers. Leveraging ACE’s integrated preconstruction, personnel, and equipment resources, you’ll play a pivotal role in our standing as a Top 200 ENR contractor on the East Coast.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction professional with a passion for leadership and operational excellence to make a lasting impact. You’ll be the cornerstone of project success, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to schedule while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preconstruction: Collaborate with project managers and engineers during planning, attending turnover meetings, reviewing plans and specifications, and contributing to the construction schedule. Analyze equipment and forming system needs, develop a comprehensive construction plan, and present the “Stand and Deliver” to senior management. Coordinate site mobilization, establish benchmarks, property corners, and fire protection plans.

  • Construction: Lead and manage field crews, ensuring smooth and safe project execution. Adjust crew size based on project needs, monitor labor costs and productivity, and oversee material purchases and deliveries. Schedule equipment use, enforce safety protocols, maintain a clean and secure job site, and coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with insurance and contract requirements.

  • Project Closeout: Oversee final project stages, including system testing and startup. Secure final inspections and certificates, ensure subcontractors complete their inspections, and prepare a completion list to address remaining tasks before the official punch list.

General Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote ACE’s safety policies and standards.

  • Participate in ACE management and coordination meetings.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth.

  • Invest in your professional development to enhance leadership and technical skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with ten (10) years of related construction experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to provide clear instructions, delegate tasks, and motivate teams.

  • Proficiency in organizational communication, project planning, and decision-making.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive, equitable, and collaborative work environment.
