Utility Yields Technician

Reports To: Maintenance Director

Summary/Objective

• The Production Yield Technician is responsible for monitoring production lines to ensure maximum efficiency and high-quality output. This role involves performing detailed inspections, conducting yield testing, and collaborating with production and maintenance teams.

Essential Functions

• Perform unbiased product quality and yield testing in assigned processing areas.
• Identify root causes of manufacturing anomalies related to equipment operation, productivity, and yield.
• Change spacers and cut limits, and adjusting machinery as necessary.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of product weights, yields, and any discrepancies found during the production cycle.
• Lock out/Tag out all equipment according to established protocols.
• Knife Sharpening: To include, but not limited to, circular knife sharpening on rotary wheel knife sharpeners. Sharpening of boning knifes on belt type as well as rotary stone machines. Chisel/cutting tool sharpening on bench grinders.  
• Greasing: To include, but not limited to, the use of hand grease guns as well as pump and canister type greasing systems. Food grade as well as low temperature and multi-purpose greases will be used.  
• Lubrication: To include, but not limited to, gear box lubrication and chain lubrication. 
• Adjust machines to always maximize yield.
• Continuously explore new opportunities for yield improvement.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Work Environment

The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Worker will be exposed to below freezing environments on occasion. The worker is subject to noise. The worker can be subject to cold and wet conditions.

Physical Demands

This job involves medium work exerting force occasionally and frequently to move objects.

The worker will be required to have a range of motion as follows: 

• Often requires walking, moving or climbing to accomplish tasks. 
• Often requires standing for sustained periods of time. 
• Occasionally requires stooping and reaching. 
• Occasionally requires pushing using upper extremities to press against something with steady force. 
• Occasionally requires pulling using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
• Lifting is required on an occasional basis.
• Ability to use a pallet jack is required. 
• Often requires feeling of products perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. 
• Repetitive motions are required which involve substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-Time Position: Work 5 days a week, week days and some weekends as required

Expected Hours: 8 to 12 Hours a days start time and end time will vary as needed.

Travel

Local travel and knowledge of location of all company sites.  

Required Education and Experience

• Previous work experience in food processing plants or fish processing plants would be de-sired. Most power tools are supplied by the company, but you will need to have your own hand tools (standard and metric). 
• Record keeping, organizational skills.

• Ability to communicate in English in order to adhere to safety standards. 
• Must show a positive attitude and work well with others. 
• Successful applicant is expected to stay in the position for 6 months.

Preferred Education and Experience

• High School Graduate or GED preferred
• Experience providing maintenance in food/agriculture setting preferred
• Bilingual a plus
• Basic spreadsheet skills
