About the role

Job Summary
The Jr. Machinery Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of industrial machinery under close supervision. This entry-level role supports senior mechanics in diagnosing issues, performing basic repairs, and ensuring equipment is safe and operational.
This job profile is intended for entry-level support staff who follow specific instructions and procedures, with supervision provided for non-routine situations. Tasks can be carried out after basic training or demonstration.

Key Responsibilities:

- Diagnose, repair, and maintain ignition systems including control panels, coils, pickups, and wiring harnesses.  

- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, and speed sensors.  

- Perform functional testing and system validation to ensure proper engine performance and compliance with specifications.  

- Interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and installation activities.  

- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on engines, compressors, and related equipment.  

- Assist with engine startups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities.  

- Identify root causes of system failures and implement corrective actions.  

- Maintain accurate service records, calibration reports, and documentation.  

- Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.  

- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment reliability.

 

Required Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical discipline preferred.  

- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including engines and rotating equipment.  

- Working knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC), sensors, and control circuits.  

- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.  

- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and calibration equipment.  

- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with natural gas engines and compressor packages.  

- Familiarity with control systems (PLC/SCADA) and engine management systems.  

- OEM training or certifications related to ignition or instrumentation systems.  

- Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and safe work practices.

 

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to noise, heat, and outdoor conditions.  

- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physically demanding tasks.  

- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces.

 

Work Environment:

- Field-based role with travel to customer sites, including remote locations.  

- May require on-call availability and extended work hours during outages or critical operations.
