Job SummaryThe Jr. Machinery Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of industrial machinery under close supervision. This entry-level role supports senior mechanics in diagnosing issues, performing basic repairs, and ensuring equipment is safe and operational.
This job profile is intended for entry-level support staff who follow specific instructions and procedures, with supervision provided for non-routine situations. Tasks can be carried out after basic training or demonstration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain ignition systems including control panels, coils, pickups, and wiring harnesses. Â
- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, and speed sensors. Â
- Perform functional testing and system validation to ensure proper engine performance and compliance with specifications. Â
- Interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and installation activities. Â
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on engines, compressors, and related equipment. Â
- Assist with engine startups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities. Â
- Identify root causes of system failures and implement corrective actions. Â
- Maintain accurate service records, calibration reports, and documentation. Â
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations. Â
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment reliability.

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical discipline preferred. Â
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including engines and rotating equipment. Â
- Working knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC), sensors, and control circuits. Â
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Â
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and calibration equipment. Â
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with natural gas engines and compressor packages. Â
- Familiarity with control systems (PLC/SCADA) and engine management systems. Â
- OEM training or certifications related to ignition or instrumentation systems. Â
- Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and safe work practices.
Â
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to noise, heat, and outdoor conditions. Â
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physically demanding tasks. Â
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
Â
Work Environment:
- Field-based role with travel to customer sites, including remote locations. Â
- May require on-call availability and extended work hours during outages or critical operations.
