This role combines operational leadership with hands-on technical expertise to manage people, processes, and performance. The Blow Mold Department Manager owns labor planning, scheduling, and departmental KPIs while driving process stability, continuous improvement, workforce development, and operational excellence across a 24x6 manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operations & People Leadership Own daily HDPE blow molding operations across multiple manufacturing plants operating in a 24x6 production environment. Lead, coach, and manage a team of up to 25 machine operators, helpers, and technicians. Develop and manage labor schedules, staffing plans, and department coverage to meet production demands. Ensure consistent execution of safety procedures, standard work, and operating practices. Support hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of department personnel. Serve as the primary escalation point during off-hours through on-call support. Technical & Process Leadership Provide technical oversight of HDPE blow molding processes, including machine setup, changeovers, troubleshooting, and optimization. Drive process stability, repeatability, and continuous improvement across multiple production lines and facilities. Partner with Engineering and Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and manufacturing capability. Ensure operators complete assigned preventive maintenance activities while coordinating corrective and planned maintenance with Maintenance. Support equipment upgrades, tooling improvements, automation projects, and capital investments related to blow molding operations. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement Own departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including: Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Equipment uptime Scrap reduction Throughput Labor efficiency Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities. Lead initiatives that reduce downtime, minimize scrap, improve safety, and increase productivity. Communicate operational performance, action plans, and improvement initiatives to leadership and cross-functional partners. Qualifications Qualifications Education/Training Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered. Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience in HDPE blow molding manufacturing. Strong technical understanding of blow molding processes, materials, molds, and equipment. Proven experience managing large production teams within a manufacturing environment. Experience with labor planning, production scheduling, and workforce management. Strong understanding of manufacturing safety, quality systems, and production best practices. Preferred Qualifications Experience within food, beverage, packaging, plastics, or consumer products manufacturing. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, TPM, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies. Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and employee development skills. Hands-on technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Data-driven decision-making and KPI management. Strong knowledge of HDPE blow molding processes and manufacturing operations. Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels. Ability to balance strategic leadership with daily operational execution. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. Travel Requirements Occasional travel between Alamance Foods manufacturing facilities. Working Conditions Manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment. Frequent interaction on the production floor. On-call availability outside of standard business hours. Ability to work in a 24x6 manufacturing environment. Develop high-performing production teams through coaching and leadership. Support continuous improvement and capital investment initiatives. Drive operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
