POSITION SUMMARYÂ Â
The Veterinary Technician is responsible for assisting with the Community Pet Clinic and meeting the health care needs of HSCC’s dogs, cats, and small animals. The Veterinary Technician will provide clinical and administrative support for veterinary wellness programs and animals in HSCC’s care. This is a temporary position for approximately the next 3 to 4 months.Â

ESSENTIALÂ FUNCTIONSÂ Â
- Assists with spay/neuter and other surgeries for both shelter and community animals, including check in exams, monitoring of patients from induction through recovery, preparation of induction drugs, supplies, and instruments, restraint of animals, surgical prep of animals, and cleaning of the med room and surgery suiteÂ
- Assists with in person client care for Community Pet Clinic clients for spay/neuter and wellness clinics, including answering the clinic email as needed.Â
- Maintains accurate computer and paper records for medications and treatments for shelter animals, enters data into ShelterLuv software database regarding animal care, medication, surgeries, and follow up Â
- Maintain accurate records, including entry of service items, invoicing, and payments in the Community Pet Clinic software (Daysmart)Â
- Assists veterinarians in dentistry and other surgeries beyond spay/neuter, as neededÂ
- Performs basic animal medical assessment and triage to assist the veterinarian as neededÂ
- Prepares and interprets basic diagnostic tests Â
- Assist veterinarian and/or Lead Vet Tech with euthanasia as neededÂ
- Assist with taking inventory weekly for Lead Vet Tech to place ordersÂ
- Performs duties such as laundry, cleaning instruments, and other tasks as needed Â
- Maintains solid attendance and punctualityÂ

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Â
Â
- A minimum of 1-year previous applicable work experience in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter clinic required; previous surgical assistance experience requiredÂ
- Veterinary Technician Certification or significant related experience desiredÂ
- Proficiency with intubation, IV catheter placement, and injection techniquesÂ
- Direct animal care experience is required: restraining animals, cleaning enclosures, and administering medicationsÂ
- Comfortable monitoring anesthesia and assisting with surgeryÂ
- Experience maintaining computerized medical recordsÂ

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSÂ
- Ability to bend, twist, and to lift at least 50lbsÂ
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical laborÂ
- Ability to handle animals, including large caninesÂ

WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENTÂ
- HSCC is a busy animal shelter environment with frequent noise and with the presence of animal dander and potential allergensÂ
- Possible exposure to sick, under-socialized and/or reactive animals in addition to potential exposure to parasites and infectious diseaseÂ
- A variety of cleaning agents are used in the facility to ensure cleanliness and the safety of animals and staff, as such use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety protocols may be requiredÂ
