Yard Jockey- 3rd shift Sun-Thurs 10:30pm-7am
Position Overview
A Yard Jockey is responsible for efficiently transporting trailers or containers within a warehouse yard or distribution center. If needed, the yard jockey may need to travel within the NJ, NY & PA areas.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintaining precise records of trailer movements, such as arrival and departure times, trailer numbers, and locations; as this information helps track inventory, monitor efficiency, and resolve any discrepancies.
- Safely operate a commercial vehicle, such as a truck or tractor-trailer, to transport materials.
- Working closely with warehouse dock personnel, including forklift operators and truck drivers to coordinate the timely movement of trailers to and from loading bays to maintain smooth operations.
- Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contact Logistics Management about removing orders according to company policy.
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
- Performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspects tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed.
- Loads and Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas using electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.
- Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured.
- Sustain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, and fuel consumption.
- Communicate with warehouse personnel, dispatchers, and customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, or any other relevant information.
- Follow instructions for proper handling and securing of cargo to prevent damage or accidents.
- Adhere to delivery schedules and meet deadlines for timely and efficient distribution of goods.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on vehicles, such as checking oil levels and tire pressure.

- Demonstrates proven knowledge of how to operate, safely drive and manage a tractor trailer or large truck.
- Complete preventative maintenance routines with proper documentation.
- Ability to interact positively and professionally with customers, employees, and vendors.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.
- Flexible schedule, including ability to work on weekends, as needed.
education and experience
- CDL Class A with valid medical card required.
- 2+ years proven experience driving a tractor-trailer or large truck preferred (Local & Yard Dog).
- Acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) with no moving violations.
- Successful completion of background check.
- Successful completion of a drug screening as per DOT (Department of Transportation) guidelines.
- Able to operate electric lifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.
- Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer.
- Alert, focused, and detail oriented.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
