This position reports directly to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy and receives day to day oversight from the Respiratory Supervisors. The Respiratory Therapist - Registered performs respiratory care related duties to all age groups. The Respiratory Therapist - Registered is responsible for direct patient care within their scope of services in accordance with state licensure, and the Registration Board of Respiratory Care. The Respiratory Therapist - Registered works under physician orders, follows departmental and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center policies. The Respiratory Therapist - Registered utilizes a high level of critical thinking skills, must have the ability to apply the appropriate best-practice, be objective and receptive to others’ points of view with regard to patient care issues.Â

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:Â
Â
-Â Â Provides direct patient care under physician orders and within the scope of services and licensure lawsÂ
-Â Â Works collaboratively with providersÂ
-Â Â Reviews current orders in area of responsibility and ensures patients receive treatments as orderedÂ
-Â Â Administers medications via hand held nebulizer, MDI and new modes of delivery as establishedÂ
-Â Assesses patients throughout the treatment and interventions cycleÂ
-  Completes and updates plans of care     Â
-Â Â Â Ensures ventilator parameters are set according to physician ordersÂ
-Â Â Â Enters set and actual patient settings on flow sheetsÂ
-Â Checks and documents alarm parametersÂ
-Â Â Completes documentation legiblyÂ
-   Assesses and performs daily spontaneous breathing trial  Â
-Â Calibrates inhaled nitric oxide systemÂ
-  Administers inhaled nitric oxide in cardiac catherization laboratory, through ventilator and assists   with administration of nitric oxide in the operating room.Â
-Â Administers helium-oxygen therapyÂ
- Sets up BIPAP and adjusts parameters per augmentation order setÂ
-Â Â Sets up patients on Non Invasive VentilationÂ
-Â Â Performs non bronchial alveolar lavage proceduresÂ
-Â Â Â Assists during proceduresÂ
-Â Â Â Assists ventilated patients during transportÂ
-   Assists to transition ventilator patients on EMS portable ventilators until transfer occurs     Â
-Â Â Â Responds to MET calls, codes blue, trauma calls and other emergenciesÂ
-Â Â Â Performs CPR as neededÂ
-Â Â Participates with collaborative research projectsÂ
-Â Â Â Draws arterial blood gases and sends to laboratory for analysisÂ
-Â Â Â Performs bedside spirometry, negative inspiratory force and vital capacity measurementsÂ
-   Takes initiative to review equipment and procedures to remain proficient Â
-Â Â Â Assists and responds to nurses regarding questions on respiratory related issuesÂ
-Â Â Â Participates on committees or task forcesÂ
-   Demonstrates flexibility to accept assignments Â
-   Develops proficiency in new respiratory practices and initiatives Â
-Â Â Â Completes patient charges, daily events, equipment set up and testing inclusive of sticker check offÂ
-Â Â Â Ensures frequent visibility when covering critical care areas; attends provider roundsÂ
-Â Â Â Organizes and manages time and workflow effectivelyÂ

Minimum Qualifications:Â

Education:Â Â
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy from an Accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.Â
Â
Licensure, Certification, Registration:Â Â
- Massachusetts LicenseÂ
-  Certified Respiratory Therapist – Registered Respiratory Therapist PreferredÂ
-Â Â Current BLS & ACLS certification Required. Must obtain ACLS certification within 6 months of start dateÂ

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:Â Â Â
-Excellent interpersonal skills Â
-Working knowlegde of PC’s. Â
-Excellent Oral and Written Communication skills.Â
-Ability to impart specialized clinical and medical information to members of the health care team; physician, nursesÂ

-Experience as a Staff Respiratory Therapist with a focus on critical care preferredÂ

Pay Range:
$40.78 - $60.59The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
