Description

The Greater Burlington YMCA is seeking Swim Team Coaches to join our Y Dynamo Swim Team staff. In this role, you’ll help guide young swimmers to build skills, improve technique, and develop teamwork and sportsmanship, while working closely with the Head Coach and other staff. 

 

This position supports the Y’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility by fostering a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for swimmers of all abilities.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Ensure Safety: Supervise swimmers, enforce pool rules, and respond calmly and effectively to emergencies. 
  • Coach & Develop: Lead practices for assigned age groups, focusing on technique, endurance, and teamwork. 
  • Foster Growth: Create a supportive environment that encourages personal improvement and sportsmanship. 
  • Communicate: Maintain clear communication with swimmers, parents, and fellow coaches regarding progress, schedules, and goals. 
  • Collaborate: Work with the Head Coach and staff to align training plans and team goals. 
  • Stay Engaged: Attend coaches’ meetings, assist with special events, and support YMCA-wide programming as needed. 
  • Model Y Values: Demonstrate the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. 

Requirements

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications. 
  • Current Lifeguarding and/or Coaches Safety certification. 
  • Strong ability to build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, and staff. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patience and professionalism in a high-volume environment. 
  • Ability to swim proficiently and perform rescues in various conditions.

  • Swim proficiently and perform water rescues in various conditions.

  • Hear noises and distress signals in and around the pool area.
  • Communicate clearly with patrons, staff, and emergency personnel.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed for rescues or equipment handling.
  • Have vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
