JOB RESPONSIBILITITES

  • Operational Responsibilities/Direct Enterprise Risk Management: Works with the VP, Deputy General Counsel of Risk and AVP, Insurance and Captive Operations to help set the strategic planning for the Organization’s Enterprise Risk Management program. Develop and implement an integrated, enterprise level risk management system incorporating healthcare risk management principles and standards, clinical patient safety techniques, and strategies to protect institutional capital.  Design Risk Framework Components - Enhance, build, or expand Risk Assessment, Risk Scoring, and Risk Reporting infrastructures, including relevant practices and processes across the Medical Center, and socialize concepts cross-functionally. Conduct risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends. Complete biennial risk assessments with members of the Board of Trustees, Senior Management, and stakeholders in primary areas and analyze accompanying data.  Develop a common risk scoring mechanism across organizational risk assessments and reviews.  Enhance ERM risk reporting to ensure all risks are appropriately and consistently managed.  Develop annual institutional report, including standardized risk scoring and methods of mitigation.  Work directly with Senior Management to standardize Board of Trustees report and deliver report findings and assessment annually to Board and Senior Management. Utilizes software system to automate risk mitigation reporting.
  • Operational Responsibilities/Assist with Clinical & Corporate Risk Management: Develop and implement an integrated, enterprise level healthcare risk management system incorporating healthcare risk management principles and standards, clinical patient safety techniques, and strategies to protect institutional capital. Maintains relationships with key Operational Leaders and reviews and assesses risk management aspects of institutional policies and protocols; makes recommendations and implements modifications and improvements to ensure the Medical Center meets industry best practices. Partners with AVP, Insurance & Captive Operations to ensure the insurance programs adequately meets the needs of the organization’s risks. Oversees management and adjusting of reports from Safety Reporting System. Oversees and provides a variety of educational programs for Operational Leaders and employees in an effort to promote awareness of and mitigate risk to the Organization.
  • Support Other Risk Management Activities - Participate in investigations, conduct interviews, gather information, review medical records and literature as requested in connection with patient safety matters, and participate in meeting preparation as requested. Collaborate with in-house legal counsel to appropriately manage property, casualty, and liability claims against CCHMC, its providers, and subsidiaries/affiliates. Review and supervise the maintenance of select databases maintained by the department as a part of its responsibility for enterprise risk management for CCHMC. Assist with the development of training programs and providing training for staff related to designated areas and topics.
  • Leadership: Provides vision, direction and leadership while working in a cross-functional capacity with key stakeholders in Legal, Finance, Compliance, Operations, IT, and HR to identify and assess organizational risks and develop risk mitigation strategies. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor

  • 2+ years of experience practicing law

  • Maintain licensure to practice law in the State of Ohio

Preferred:

  • Experience in insurance, captive insurance, risk finance or corporate risk management across a diversity of traditional and non-traditional risks
  • Experience in healthcare
