The role involves leveraging personal experiences with mental health recovery to inspire hope and motivate clients towards achieving their personal recovery goals. The Peer Support Specialist acts as a role model and advocate, promoting self-determination and empowerment. Key Responsibilities: - Provide one-on-one peer support and mentoring to clients, utilizing personal experiences to offer empathy and understanding. - Assist clients in developing recovery plans and setting achievable goals, while encouraging self-advocacy and personal responsibility. - Facilitate peer support groups and workshops, fostering a supportive community environment. - Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients. - Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions and progress. - Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. - Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the organization and the broader community. - Educate clients and their families about available resources and services, providing guidance on navigating the mental health system. - Promote a recovery-oriented approach in all interactions, encouraging hope and resilience. QualificationsRequired Education: - High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. - Completion of a Peer Support Specialist certification program is preferred. Required Experience: - Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mental health or substance use disorder setting. - Personal experience with recovery from mental health or substance use challenges is highly valued. - Experience working in a team-oriented environment, preferably in a behavioral health setting. Required Skills and Abilities: - Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with clients and colleagues. - Ability to use personal recovery experiences to support and inspire others in their recovery journey. - Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards. - Capability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records. - Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and foster a supportive environment. - Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
