Position Summary
The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer is responsible for supporting construction and field operations teams determining the best routes to service new and existing customers, maintaining the integrity of the network while working safely to develop a plan which can be executed timely and on budget. This position requires analysis of outside plant infrastructure, a familiarity of NESC guidelines, occasional field surveying, working with local and state municipalities to acquire road permits and easements to complete OSP projects. It requires working with various utility companies to complete OSP projects. It also requires communicating clearly and collaborating with various departments within the organization.
Responsibilities
Works directly with OSP Coordinators on pole application processes
Supports OSP Coordinators with process improvements
Provide guidance/support to construction/field operations teams as needed
Ensures compliance with industry specifications including but not limited to gathering pole data and obtaining permitting and rights of way
Serves as a liaison between the Company, Construction Managers, contractors, public utility companies, and customers
Actively seeks to resolve delays quickly and efficiently during the life cycle of the project
Ability to interpret outside plant infrastructure including data, maps, and design drawings.
Understanding make-ready pole engineering including safety practices
Familiarity with NESC/Utility Company safety standards
Review and analyzing utility pole audit data
Occasionally will conduct pole surveys and GIS surveys to update and maintain OSP databases
Ability to travel as required
This position requires working in a variety of conditions from temperature-controlled offices to outside elements
Extended sitting, standing, and kneeling may be required
Occasional lifting of more than 20 pounds may be required
Qualifications
5+ years of telephony or engineering operations experience
Associate’s Degree in a technical discipline preferred
2+ years directly related OSP Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
