Specialty Gas Operator Qualifications 

Incumbents must have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in these areas. 

  • Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) to three (3) years related experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills including functionality in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to successfully certify and maintain Operator certification and Emergency Squad Certification as required by policy.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain HWP signer certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds. 
  • Frequently climb ladders and stairs
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. 
  • Personal protective safety equipment and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and bunker gear are required to be used during emergency procedures.
  • Average aerobic capacity is required for E-Squad members.

 

Specialty Gas Operator Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, temperatures range from below 0 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
  • This position may require the employee to work a 12-hour rotating shift including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required and based on production needs, the company reserves the right to change or modify the schedule.
