Job Overview:

The Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in our accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial operations within the transportation industry. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Senior Staff Accountant and other members of the accounting team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports, including the setup, input, review, and analysis of financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Maintain the fixed asset system, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
Record monthly equipment sales and calculate applicable commissions.
Prepare and post weekly and bi-weekly payroll journal entries to general ledger.
Assist with the budgeting and forecasting processes, including data gathering and variance analysis.

Provide financial analysis and support special projects and ad hoc requests as needed
Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and support.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulations.
Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting department.
Assist in the implementation of new accounting software and tools as needed.
Other duties as assigned by manager.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Experience in Karmak or other ERP systems is a plus
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Physical Requirements:

Office Environment
Must be able to lift/carry 5 lbs frequently. 
Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs occasionally. 
Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs infrequently.  
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
