Overview

The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation is seeking a Consumer Services Specialist II. This is an opportunity to join the Consumer Services Section of the Insurance Division, which helps Vermonters navigate insurance issues and resolve insurance complaints. The ideal candidate is an insurance professional with an understanding of or the willingness and ability to learn complex insurance laws, regulations, and policy provisions.

 

Consumer Services investigates and mediates insurance complaints and provides educational outreach to the public, so a candidate must be an effective communicator, able to explain complex issues clearly, and mediate conflicts with professionalism and empathy. As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 22 will be $26.50 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $41.37 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting. The job role involves communicating with individuals in potentially adverse situations and under some degree of stress. Tact and diplomacy are required to arrive at a proper solution to a problem.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree, or higher, and two (2) years of experience in insurance operations such as customer service, claims adjusting, or negotiating settlements under the various forms of coverage such as fire, liability, casualty, accident and health and life insurance.

 

OR

 

High School Diploma and four (4) years of experience in insurance operations such as customer service, claims adjusting, or negotiating settlements under the various forms of coverage such as fire, liability, casualty, accident and health and life insurance.
