Position Overview 

 

The Computer Network Technologist II position supports the Home Station Instrument Training System (HITS) on the Maintenance Program (WTRS) Contract.

 

 

Responsibilities / Duties 

  • Performs configuration changes, system backup and restore, troubleshoots, and user account administration
  • Maintains system operational availability, supports installations, develops solutions to technical issues, works with in-plant engineers to resolve discrepancy reports, provides on-the-job training to the system operators and supports Unit maintenance tasking
  • Provides technical support of VMware systems.
  • This position may require travel to other installations and other WTRS Locations

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Computer or Systems Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience, OR AS + 8 years of experience, OR 12 years of equivalent military/civilian experience.
  • Four years of applicable experience, including: Red Hat Linux OS, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Bash shell language, host-client relationships, and network design and configuration.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid driver’s license and On-Post driving privileges
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Position requires the ability to maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Certification in Security + - DoD 8570 Certification

 

Preferred Skills/Knowledges

  • Experience with or knowledge of Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) operations and VMware highly preferred
  • Experience with Mark Logic databases
  • Experience with Puppet or remote configuration management tools
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, customer service and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)

 

Physical Demands

 

  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance. 
  • Bend, squat, climb, and reach.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
  • Frequent use of keyboards for data entry, configuration changes, and troubleshooting.
  • Clear verbal communication to provide technical support and training to system operators
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
  • Experience using torque wrenches, volt/micrometers, network cable crimping/testers, and solder stations for repairs. Skilled in handling small components and tools during installations and repairs.
