The Communications Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all communications (internal and external information), as well as the promotion of Barnabas Center programs and activities. Works with the President & CEO and leadership team to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values a commitment to quality and service excellence. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Works in coordination with the President & CEO and outside expertise to develop and implement an annual written marketing and communications plan. Develop metrics to measure success and evaluate effectiveness of plan. 
  2. Works with the President & CEO and Chief Development Officer to draft and implement an annual, strategic, special events/activities plan that ensures the efforts and resources are utilized in a manner that provides the greatest impact for Barnabas Center.
  3. Coordinates all social media activities for the agency and ensures that posts and messages are timely, appropriate, accurate and consistent with Barnabas’s messaging.
  4. Develops and writes content for press releases and monthly electronic newsletter. Monitors open rate of newsletter each month.
  5. Regularly updates and ensures maintenance of the Barnabas website. Monitors “visits” to targeted pages of the website. 
  6. Ensures that all external communications and marketing materials are consistent with Barnabas’s branding. 
  7. Liaison for third party communication firm.
  8. Oversee digital platforms such as the Barnabas website and social media.
  9. Manages all media contacts; cultivate relationships with media to ensure the most effective messaging for and positioning of Barnabas. Coordinates with the President & CEO and Chief Development Officer and outside expertise to manage the development, dissemination, and maintenance of the content of all print and electronic marketing and fundraising materials including but not limited to annual report, newsletters, brochures, signs, event promotional materials, donor/sponsor materials, website, etc. 
  10. Partners with the development team to create persuasive messaging for donor appeals, annual reports and grant proposals.
  11. Works with program managers to develop and utilize story lines that effectively communicate the “story” of Barnabas and the people served. 
  12. Assists with special events and community outreach activities, as needed. 
  13. Promotes a culture of safety and maintains a safe environment for employees, volunteers, and customers.
  14. Fosters a culture in which personnel demonstrate the values of the organization in every aspect of their work and interactions with each other and customers. 
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Competency (knowledge, skills, abilities): 

Must have excellent oral and written communications skills, and outstanding interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse groups of people in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency in Microsoft office programs, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook. Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Adobe products, specifically InDesign. Exceptional storytelling ability and flexibility to manage multiple priorities. Must be able to work flexible hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

This position requires up to 25% travel. Occasionally travel is outside the local area and overnight.

Required Education and Experience:

BA/BS in marketing, communications, or related field. Preference given to an individual with a minimum of 3-to-five years communications/marketing experience, preferably in a non-profit organization. Experience must include strategic planning, communications planning and management, marketing, and media relations.
