The Role

The Associate Director, Commercial Communications and External Affairs is responsible for developing and executing integrated communications strategies that advance Moderna's business priorities, strengthen the Company's reputation, and support key commercial, policy and enterprise initiatives. This role serves as a strategic communications partner for the U.S. Commercial organization and partners closely with the Public Policy organization on external affairs initiatives. As part of this role, the individual will support executive communications for senior Commercial and enterprise leaders and regularly engage with employees, customers, healthcare professionals, media and other stakeholders.

The individual will translate complex business priorities into compelling communications for internal and external audiences, ensuring consistency of messaging across channels while helping position Moderna as a trusted leader in biotechnology and healthcare innovation. Working cross-functionally, this individual will provide strategic counsel and manage high-profile communications initiatives that support business objectives and strengthen Moderna's reputation.

Here's What You'll Do

U.S. Commercial Communications

  • Develop and execute communications plans supporting U.S. Commercial priorities, product launches, lifecycle management, business initiatives, and organizational milestones.

  • Partner with Commercial leadership to communicate business strategy, organizational updates, and key initiatives to internal and external audiences, including media and field sales teams.

  • Ensure consistent messaging across commercial communications while aligning with enterprise communications strategy and global counterparts.

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to commercial leaders during periods of change and business transformation.

  • Identify communications opportunities and reputational considerations associated with commercial milestones and develop communications plans to support business objectives.

Executive Communications

  • Develop executive communications for senior leaders, including speeches, presentations, blogs, talking points, articles, town halls, and leadership messaging.

  • Create executive messaging that clearly communicates business priorities, organizational updates, and strategic initiatives.

  • Ensure communications reflect Moderna's voice, values, and strategic direction.

  • Create, execute and support executive visibility opportunities.

  • Support executive communications for senior Commercial leaders while partnering on enterprise executive communications

External Affairs Communications

  • Partner with the U.S Public Policy organization to develop communications supporting public policy, government affairs, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure coordinated communications across corporate affairs activities.

  • Support reputation-building initiatives that reinforce Moderna's leadership within healthcare and biotechnology.

  • Contribute to initiatives that advance Moderna's corporate reputation through integrated communications, external engagement, and thought leadership.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in corporate communications, external affairs, executive communications, or related disciplines.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting executives and developing executive communications for high-profile audiences.

  • Experience partnering with commercial organizations within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industries.

  • Strong understanding of public policy, healthcare communications, or external affairs communications.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex business topics into clear, compelling messaging.

  • Experience supporting financial communications, corporate announcements, or earnings-related communications is preferred.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong judgment, executive presence, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Demonstrated experience leading integrated communications strategies across multiple stakeholder audiences within a complex, matrixed organization.

The salary range for this role is $142,500.00 - $256,500.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
