At EF World Journeys, we believe that the best way to learn about the world is to experience it, and we strive to help as many people as possible share that experience. EF Go Ahead Tours, EF Ultimate Break and EF Adventures are divisions of EF World Journeys, and we make world travel easy. We want to empower travelers of all ages to get out there and experience something new on our guided tours. If you share this passion for opening the world, come work with us!

On the WoJo Engineering team you'll join a group of engineers, product professionals, analysts, and UX/UI designers who build the applications and systems that make travel happen. We power every step of the customer journey, from the e-commerce experience on the web to the mobile app that enhances the trip itself, and we power the internal tools our teams use to serve those customers. As a Data Engineer, you'll help build and operate the data platform our teams rely on, including the data foundations behind our growing AI and machine learning work.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and transformations that keep our data accurate, timely, and trusted.

  • Develop and own dbt models that transform raw data into well-documented, tested, and trusted datasets.

  • Build and schedule transformation workflows in dbt Cloud, managing job orchestration and cross-layer dependencies.

  • Model and optimize data in Snowflake, including warehouse performance, cost, and secure data sharing.

  • Build the data foundations behind our AI/ML work: feature-ready datasets, a semantic layer that powers LLM-driven analytics, and pipelines that support model training and inference.

  • Activate data across the business: sync trusted datasets to downstream tools like our marketing and CRM platforms using reverse ETL (Hightouch).

  • Build and maintain the marketing product catalogs that power our advertising and personalization channels, keeping product data accurate and channel-ready.

  • Build data quality into everything you ship: automated tests, monitoring, and clear alerting.

  • Partner with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous needs into scalable data solutions.

  • Contribute to the technical direction of the platform, sharing ideas and raising the bar on best practices.

How you work

  • You take ownership, from problem definition through production and monitoring.

  • You collaborate openly, participate in team discovery and design discussions, and give and receive candid feedback.

  • You care about maintainability: clean code, thoughtful reviews, and documentation others can rely on.

  • You balance pragmatism with quality, knowing when to ship and when to invest in the foundation.

  • You use AI tools to work smarter, and you're excited to help build the data foundations that make AI products possible.

What you'll bring

  • Experience building production data pipelines and transformations (typically 3+ years in data engineering or a similar role).

  • Strong SQL and hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake preferred).

  • Hands-on experience with dbt (dbt Core and/or dbt Cloud).

  • Proficiency in Python for data tooling and automation.

  • A track record of collaborating with analysts and business stakeholders to deliver data they trust.

  • Bonus: experience supporting AI/ML workloads (feature engineering, semantic layers, ML pipelines, or LLM-powered applications).

  • Bonus: experience with reverse ETL / data activation (Hightouch) or powering marketing and advertising channels with data.

  • Bonus: experience with CI/CD for data, data quality frameworks, or cloud infrastructure (AWS).

You can expect:

  • The opportunity to travel on one of our tours every year at no cost and without using your paid vacation.

  • Four weeks of paid vacation and twelve paid holidays.

  • Professional growth opportunities, including monthly trainings, workshops, and talks with global leaders and experts.

  • A 25% company match on your 401(k).

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with life and disability insurance.

  • Paid international business travel.

  • Wellness benefits and an annual fitness reimbursement.

  • EF program discounts, including travel, language schools, childcare, and more.

  • Dependent-care, healthcare, and commuter flexible spending accounts.

  • Discounts at local venues and businesses.

  • Compensation range for the Data Engineer I role is $85,000-$110,000, based on experience.

    • Additionally, the team is open to considering candidates who would align to a Date Engineer II role. If being hired at that level, the compensation range would be $105,000-$130,000 based on experience.

Some companies are in the business of banking. Others are in the business of shoes. Or sports. Or soft drinks. At EF, we're in a different kind of business. One that's a little less tangible, and a lot more important. Because our business, what we make, makes everything else possible. We're in the business of understanding. Between people. Between cultures.

For over half a century we’ve been the leader in international educational programs and experiences designed to foster such understanding.  Through language, cultural exchange, academic studies, and educational travel, we create the kinds of immersive experiences that challenge biases, open minds, and pave the way for a more understanding world.

You’ll find our offices and schools located in some of the world’s greatest cities, and filled with smart, driven people (over 50,000 of us) who push each other to be better every day. But it’s what we do together - building greater understanding, breaking down barriers, and creating a better world - that makes all the difference.

Founded in 1965 in Sweden, EF (Education First) is a global association of education companies that share a common mission of opening the world through education. EF has been recognized on Forbes 2025 and 2024 World’s Best Employers and 2024 Top Companies for Women lists, Fast Company’s 2025 Next Big Things In Tech, and was a 2024 App Store Award winner in Cultural Impact.

At EF World Journeys, we believe the best way to learn about the world is to experience it, and we strive to help as many people as possible do just that. Through our culturally immersive group travel programs, EF Adventures, EF Ultimate Break and EF Go Ahead Tours, we lead guided tours that make travel easy and fun, empowering travelers of all ages to experience something beyond the ordinary. If you share this passion, then we invite you to come open the world with us!
