The BioDesign group at Biogen is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to contribute to the discovery and development of innovative biologic therapeutics. The Sr. Scientist will contribute to multiple research programs through the design, engineering, and expression of recombinant proteins, including antibodies and other biologic modalities. Leveraging expertise in molecular biology, protein engineering, and mammalian cell engineering, this individual will balance hands-on laboratory research with oversight of external protein production efforts at CROs while collaborating across multidisciplinary project teams to advance the therapeutic pipeline

What You’ll Do

  • Design, engineer, and express recombinant proteins and antibodies including bispecifics and novel fusions using transient and stable expression platforms.

  • Develop stable CHO cell lines for antibody expression as well as mammalian cell lines and reporters to support antibody discovery, screening, and lead optimization.

  • Support protein purification and characterization activities, including assessment of antibody binding and cell-surface target engagement using flow cytometry

  • Manage all aspects of protein production activities at CRO

  • Actively contribute to project strategy and experimental design, and regularly present findings at team meetings

  • Document experimental work clearly and completely in electronic lab notebooks and technical reports

Who You Are

You are an independent and innovative scientist with strong expertise in molecular biology, antibody engineering, and mammalian cell culture. You enjoy working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and are motivated by solving complex scientific challenges. You have a track record of scientific achievement, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while contributing to shared team goals

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field with 2+ years experience industry experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years relevant industry experience.

  • Strong expertise in molecular biology and protein engineering, with demonstrated experience designing antibodies and novel antibody-based formats, including biospecifics and fusion proteins

  • Hands-on experience developing and executing mammalian cell culture, transfection, and expression workflows for recombinant antibody production

  • Competence in protein purification and in vitro analytical characterization techniques (e.g., SEC, Octet,)

  • Experience characterizing antibody binding, specificity, and cell-surface target engagement using flow cytometry (FACS)-based assays.

  • Track record of managing CRO relationships and external protein production

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and data presentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Direct experience with antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates and other complex modalities.

  • Expertise in advanced cell engineering technologies including lentiviral transduction and gene editing technologies.

  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry–based characterization of antibody therapeutics and engineered biologics
