My Auto Store is currently hiring for an experienced Auto Parts Salvage Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on automotive position responsible for dismantling vehicles, removing and salvaging usable parts, properly handling fluids, and cleaning components for resale or reuse. The ideal candidate has prior automotive experience and is comfortable working with hand and power tools. This is not an entry-level general labor position. You should have a working knowledge of vehicles and their components and be able to safely remove parts while maintaining the quality and condition of salvageable items. This role will be worked in Camden, NJ, is a union position and pays $19.98/hr.
Key Responsibilities
- Dismantle end-of-life and salvage vehicles to recover usable automotive parts and materials.
- Remove engines, transmissions, batteries, tires, wheels, catalytic converters, body panels, interior components, and other vehicle parts as directed.
- Use hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and other automotive equipment safely and effectively.
- Identify and remove components that have value for resale or recycling.
- Perform vehicle "greening" procedures, including draining and properly handling fuel, oil, coolant, refrigerant, and other automotive fluids.
- Clean and prepare salvaged parts for resale using appropriate cleaning methods and equipment, including dry ice blasting.
- Inspect removed components for condition and potential reuse.
- Keep tools, equipment, work areas, and vehicles organized and clean.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental handling procedures.
- Work as part of a team to maintain production and meet daily dismantling goals.
Qualifications
- Previous automotive experience is required.
- Experience in automotive repair, auto body, vehicle dismantling, salvage, parts, or a related automotive environment.
- Comfortable identifying common vehicle components and understanding basic automotive systems.
- Proficiency using common hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to safely use cutting tools and automotive dismantling equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn new equipment and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when removing parts intended for resale.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
