Overview

 The Junior Maintenance Technician will be part of the Operations Department, taking technical direction from the Maintenance Supervisor and reporting directly to the Property Manager. The Junior Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of apartment buildings and grounds. This role is designed as a developmental position, combining hands-on technical training with increasing responsibility for service requests, unit turns, and preventative maintenance. The Junior Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring that assigned communities are maintained to Pennrose’s standards of excellence while building the technical skills needed to grow into a Maintenance Technician role. 

This role is ideal for individuals looking to grow their career in property maintenance. The Junior Maintenance Technician gains hands-on experience while contributing to daily operations. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative work each morning (30 minutes) as assigned by the PM or Support Center, including but not limited to prescribed online training, reviewing “My Pennrose” updates, reviewing communications, and participating in team meetings. 
  • Assist in completing service requests accurately and promptly using the company’s mobile Maintenance app, with guidance from the Maintenance Supervisor as needed. 
  • Support the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairing basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry issues. 
  • Assist with unit turns, including trash-outs, light repairs, painting, and cleaning to help meet occupancy timelines. 
  • Remove trash from office areas and apartment community perimeter daily. 
  • Responsible for meticulous upkeep of grounds, amenities, building exteriors, leasing office, parking lots, and other community buildings. 
  • Assist in the cleaning of available apartments, shared area bathrooms, hallway/breezeway floors, and elevators. 
  • Assist the maintenance team with snow removal (If applicable) 
  • Participate in preventative maintenance activities to help ensure building systems are operating efficiently. 
  • Inspect grounds, common areas, and building exteriors to help maintain a clean, safe, and attractive community environment. 
  • Assist with preparing for inspections (Owner, Federal, State, and local) by addressing minor deficiencies and identifying issues for escalation. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, storage rooms, and equipment. 
  • Support seasonal property needs, including snow removal and general grounds upkeep. 
  • Report all maintenance concerns and safety hazards promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor. 
  • Assist with vendor coordination and parts organization as directed. 
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding professionally to resident needs and concerns. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required 
  • Willingness to obtain EPA certification within six months (company provided) 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred 
  • Technical training or certifications  

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed 
  • Ability to travel between properties if applicable 
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including transitional neighborhoods 
  • Physical requirements include bending, lifting, climbing stairs, and performing hands-on maintenance tasks 
  • Majority of time spent performing hands-on repair, maintenance, and property upkeep duties
