SUMMARY: As a developing professional in Mechanical Engineering, the person in this role will provide support to the development of the robotics system, which is the backbone of the surgical procedure. Your work will directly contribute to improving access to care for hundreds of thousands of patients a year.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Take part in design review over a robotic sub-system during new product development.  This work involves structural design, motor selection and integration, and drivetrain design for a multiple degree-of-freedom robot. 
  • Collaborate with engineering consultants to incorporate industrial design and usability improvements.  
  • Identify problem statements, brainstorm creative solutions, prototype systems, and iterate on the design for a production-ready solution
  • Support engineering analysis of the system which includes stress analysis and optimization, thermal, fatigue, vibration, and assembly.
  • Coordinate directly with other engineering disciplines, including electrical, optical, systems, and software to develop system requirements and coordinate design activity.
  • Complete and maintain engineering specifications and documentation to enable effective knowledge transfer throughout the company.
  • Communicate with suppliers and manufacturing throughout development to ensure quality and performance. 
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:                                                          
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with at least 1 year of experience in developing robotics solutions; or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience
  • Working knowledge of fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, and injection moulding.
  • Hands-on engineering with the proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Analysis skills, including statics, dynamics, strength of materials and stress analysis.
  • Must be capable of working independently and in a team while being flexible and self-motivated.
  • Previous experience in developing Medical Devices in an FDA regulated environment is preferred

Salary Range - $110,000-$116,000 annually
