Job Summary and Essential Job Duties

The Buyer is responsible for assisting with purchasing activity control to meet business and financial objectives through the development of internal and external supply chain relationships. The Buyer reports to the Supply Chain Manager Optical Systems (SCMOS).

 

Through On the Job Training (OJT), the Buyer will:

  • Review order acknowledgements from Suppliers to verify order status, ensure accuracy, and resolve discrepancies
  • Proactively monitor open order reports (OOR) and communicate with internal stakeholders as needed to develop mitigation plan for any issues that may arise
  • Maintain Supplier database and scorecards.
  • Assist SCMOS with timely review and maintenance of documents
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on company objectives, purchasing strategies and support activities
  • Interacting with Suppliers with respect to RMA/returns of non-conforming product
  • Discovering and Onboarding new Supplier
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Advancement through the Buyer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.  

Education Requirements: 

  • A High School Diploma or GED required. Experience related to manufacturing or supply chain preferred. Production control and/or optics experience desirable.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of intermediate level Microsoft Word and Outlook. Semi-advanced level Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of FileMaker Pro and Epicor desirable. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Work Requirements: 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

 

Work Environment:

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • May require area specific safety training
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes
