Project Engineering ManagerÂ

Â
The Role:
The Automation Project Engineering Manager position is within our Auto division and is responsible for the development, installation and commissioning of CAPEX projects. This role will also support automation related items across our North American manufacturing site network. This role will report to the director of National Engineering. This individual will be responsible for submitting projects and coming up with the costs associated with the project/managing capital spend. The individual will have a keen focus on project execution and providing recommendations or improvements to adhere to the budget. This position may travel approximately 30% for off-site meetings and / project execution.
 Responsibilities:
- Ensure project and troubleshooting compliance with all site, company, local, and federal safety and environmental regulations. Must have a strong working knowledge of automation safety and environmental controls requirements in the various jurisdictions where work is being performed.
- Noncompromising adherence to all site, company, regulatory, and customer related product quality requirements. Experience working within an ISO certified environment is an asset.
- Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates; preparing and justifying capital requests through project execution.Â
- Utilize project management tools and engineering discipline to define and implement solutions that meet project goals and objectives within budgeted timelines, costs and resources.
- Quickly assess current and desired state, developing solutions to meet clearly defined goals.
- Research and negotiate with vendors and third-party contractors to vet prospective projects, agree on timelines, establish agreements, and present multi-quote options and solutions to stakeholders.
- Plan and execute plant layout, process flow, and machine capability improvements.
- Utilize Design for Manufacturability (DFM) approach to ensure production lines are balanced, and employee interactions are minimized.
- Participate in cross-facility initiatives and expand network to determine the best company-wide practices and improvement of business processes.
- Identify and implement solutions for product yield loss reduction, step change increases in equipment availability and overall production line throughput focusing on disciplined management of change.
- KPIs (ROI, Project Timeline and Budget Adherence, Cost-Take-Out $, Revenue Impacted $, OEE)
- Identifies and manages subcontractors as needed.
- Forge relationships with business partners throughout the site and organization. Communicate well and clearly, taking the time to understand manufacturing processes. Lead project update meetings, ensuring key stakeholders are updated and engaged throughout the life cycle of a project.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering. Other disciplines may be considered with approval from hiring manager.
- Capable of travelling up to 35%
- 10+ years of project management experience or project engineering and related automation/controls experience.
- Bulk and consumer packaged goods, filling, blending, conveying systems, blow molding machines or similar manufacturing environment.
- Technical troubleshooting, solution oriented root cause analysis especially related to equipment automation, instrumentation, and controls.
- Equipment specification and design.
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD or similar design software. Experience with P&ID creation and understanding.
- Strong knowledge of AB, Siemens, or other controls software and hardware applications and capabilities. Ability to create and troubleshoot control program applications.
- Strong knowledge of the appropriate instrumentation for the application.
- Ability to innovate and upgrade existing automation applications using the latest technology.
- Use of project management software experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio.
- Packaging/Filling/Blending process, equipment, and automation/controls knowledge is critical to be successful in this role.
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated, high sense of urgency and results oriented.
- Mechanical, Electrical and Controls troubleshooting., and support.Â
- Strong project management and troubleshooting documentation such as scope, budget, FAT, SAT, RFQ, change management, RCA, training.
- Team oriented; willingness to embrace input and seek solutions from multiple functional areas and work in a collaborative environment.
- Flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Positive, solution-based approach to all issues.
- Comfortable working with data to guide decision making in complex troubleshooting and/or project execution situations.
- Ability to learn and work with ERP systems for purchase orders, invoice approval, and data reporting requirements.
