Full job description
The Certified Medication Aide assists with prescribed medications and treatments,
as defined by state regulations, to residents and maintains related work records under the
supervision of the Nurse Supervisor. The Medication Aide also assists residents in all aspects of their daily life as indicated in the resident service plan, including personal care, food service, housekeeping, laundry, behavior management, socialization, activities, orientation, and information needs. This position requires tact, sensitivity, and professionalism due to the constant interaction with residents and families to guarantee their satisfaction.
Experience: Medication Technician experience in an Assisted Living Facility preferred.
Job Functions:
• Follow the individualized plan of care for all residents.
• Provide direct resident care services, including the distribution of medication.
• Observe residents for changes in condition and report any changes immediately to the
Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.
• Provides privacy for the residents.
• Checks for changes in orders and discontinued orders.
• Assists with self-administration of medication as assigned within the scope of practice.
• Assists with self-administration of medications, staying with each resident until the
medication is consumed and charts appropriately.
• Maintains upkeep and cleanliness of medication carts, wipes down top of medication
cart daily.
• Checks the medication cart daily for upcoming expiration dates and notifies the
supervising nurse of all medications that are expiring.
• Responsible for maintaining an accurate narcotic log and verifying count with oncoming
Med Tech or LPN.
• Notifies a supervising nurse at once if signs of any adverse reaction of medication on
resident.
• Notes significant changes in the condition of residents.
• Communicates requests and problems to appropriate personnel.
• Any additional duties as assigned.
• Providing assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) by assisting with any and all
needs the residents may have, including but not limited to activities such as bathing,
dressing, grooming, hygiene, mobility, toileting, and eating (while not handling
medications).
• Maintain a consistent charting rhythm with all residents in their care, following the
medication administration requirements for each individual resident.
• Reporting to their wing or charge nurse any changes in the resident needs or condition.
• Follow all facility policies and procedures with regards to the safety and security of
themselves, the residents, and any guests.
• Treats all residents with respect and dignity.
• Follows the instructions and direction from leadership as well as working in conjunction
with other floor staff including nurses and other aides.
Position Requirements:
• 1-year clinical experience as Medication Technician experience preferred.
• CPR certification is highly preferred.
As a Certified Med Tech, you will assist our residents daily, ensuring their medication plan is appropriately executed while making meaningful connections with each resident.
