Days/Hours of Job:      Mon. - Fri., Flexible Hours – flexibility required.  Typical routes are morning between 6:30 – 9:00 am and afternoon between 2:30 – 5:00 pm. SPLIT SHIFT

THERE ARE NO FULL TIME  POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN THIS DEPARTMENT. THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION ONLY!


Location of Job:   Transportation Hub located in Canton, CT


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services from individual’s homes to day programs in the morning and from day programs back to home in the afternoon. Drivers are directly supervised by the Transportation management staff. Drivers will be assigned a specific route but must be willing and able to drive different routes and different types of vehicles.

 

 Essential Functions and Expectations:


  • Safely operates all Agency vehicles in accordance with the laws and regulations of the State of Connecticut. 
  • Transports individuals in Agency vehicles (minibus, van, or minivan) as assigned by Transportation Coordinator and/or Transportation Assistant.
  • Able to drive multiple routes.
  • Loads and safely secures individuals in wheelchairs in accordance with Agency policies.
  • Fuels Agency vehicles provided credit cards, as needed. 
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete route sheets and drop off times in accordance with Agency policies.
  • Assures that everyone is dropped off safely in his or her home, with proper supervision, if applicable, before continuing the route.
  • Maintains a safe, hazard-free vehicle, inspecting vehicle and reporting maintenance needs to the Transportation Coordinator and/or Transportation Assistant.
  • Provides assistance transporting Agency vehicles to/from garages for maintenance and repairs.
  • Reports any concerns or unusual behavior by an individual on your vehicle to Transportation Coordinator and/or Transportation Assistant.
  • Accurately completes any required reports (e.g., incident or accident reports) in a timely manner.
  • Completes all designated training courses and keeps up to date on all required training certificates.
  • Completes additional assignments as identified by the Transportation Coordinator and/or Transportation Assistant.


Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum 3 years of driving experience.
  • Valid CT driver's license with a clean driving record and be insurable with Agency carrier.
  • Complete Rideshare application and be approved by Rideshare. Rideshare requirements include: No DUI or DWI convictions.
    • Report any motor vehicle accidents and traffic violations in the past 3 years. 
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a State of Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement.
  • Must be able to use GPS to find addresses.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Handle problems and delays with repairs in a professional manner, avoiding conflicts.
  • Maintain all required training, including but not limited to driver safety, First Aid, CPR, physical restraint, and others as deemed necessary.

 

Physical Requirements:

 Must be physically able to fulfill all responsibilities of the job. 

 To include:

  • Bending, stooping, standing, pushing, pulling. 
  • Lifting to 50 lbs. safely.
  • Assist participants in and out of vehicles as needed.
  • Handle wheelchair loading including tie downs. 
  • Respond quickly during an emergency roadside incident and assist individuals as needed. 
  • During inclement weather, be able to clean off vehicles and ensure the vehicle is free of snow and ice and “road ready.”
