Grad Asst - America Reads - America Counts

III.  Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the overall efforts of the America Reads/America Counts program.

IV. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in overseeing the America Reads/American Counts program
• Supervises veteran work-study student tutors 
• Recruits and trains new work-study student tutors
• Maintains the America Reads/America Counts parent/child list and the waiting list
• Promotes the America Reads/America Counts program
• Maintains the America Reads/America Counts tutoring room to ensure there are supplies for the tutors
• Assists the Teacher Education program/department with data entry and administrative work
• Other duties as assigned

VI.  Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree required with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Registered and enrolled in a full-time graduate program

VII.  Working Conditions / Physical Demands

• This role will be performed in the America Reads-America Counts office and in the tutoring room. 
• Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting

Additional Information:

• 10 hours per week

Graduate assistants in this roll may receive up to 9 credit hours per academic year (maximum of 4.5 per semester) of tuition remission in exchange for up to 400 hours of service.  The term of this position is August 1 - May 31 and is for one academic year unless it is shortened by poor performance, completion of the degree or withdrawal from the program.  The tuition voucher is for courses toward degree requirements only.  Any unused portion of the voucher expires at the end of the academic year and may not be carried over to the next year.   Graduate assistants are responsible for payment of all academic fees, room, meal plans and tuition beyond the voucher.  In some cases, housing and meal coverage may be extended as part of the assistantship.  As an employee, Graduate assistants will receive a W-2 reflecting the value of service for tax filing purposes.  Graduate assistants should consult their tax advisor to discuss the tax implications.
