Growth Manager – Private Utilities (Entrepreneur in Residence)

Role Overview

Energy Intelligence (EI) is seeking an Entrepreneur in Residence – Business Manager to take ownership of our private utility management business, with a strong focus on prepaid electricity and water for residential and mixed-use complexes.

This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial role combining portfolio management, business development, and operational leadership. The successful candidate will manage EI’s existing client base while actively driving new growth.

The role is based in Century City and operates within the Methys Venture Studio, offering exposure to a broader ecosystem of entrepreneurial ventures, best practices, and shared expertise.

Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio & Client Management

• Manage and grow EI’s existing portfolio of private utility clients
  

• Serve as the primary commercial contact for managing agents, trustees, and asset managers
  

• Ensure strong recovery ratios, operational performance, and client satisfaction
  

• Identify upsell and expansion opportunities within existing buildings and portfolios
  

2. Business Development & Growth

• Identify, pursue, and close new private utility management opportunities
  

• Build and maintain relationships with:
  

• Managing agents
  

• Body corporates and trustees
  

• Property developers
  

• Asset managers
  

• Drive growth in prepaid electricity and water solutions
  

• Support pricing, proposals, and commercial negotiations
  

3. Entrepreneurial Ownership

• Take a business-owner mindset toward EI’s utility management activities
  

• Help refine EI’s value proposition and go-to-market strategy
  

• Identify operational improvements, efficiencies, and new revenue streams
  

• Contribute to strategic planning and execution
  

4. Internal Coordination

• Work closely with support teams
  

• Manage relationships with electrical suppliers
  

• Translate client needs into clear operational actions
  

• Track performance metrics and report on portfolio health
  

Requirements

Required

• 3–5 years’ experience in utilities, with strong exposure to:
  

• Private utilities
  

• Prepaid electricity and/or water
  

• Metering, billing, vending, or revenue recovery
  

• Solid understanding of the South African private utilities market
  

• Proven experience managing commercial client relationships
