Position Summary

• Responsible for assisting with gross descriptions and dissection of surgical tissues; submits specimens for laboratory testing; summarizes patients’ medical history.

Principal Accountabilities

Education

• Master’s degree in Health Science or Pathology

Licenses and Certification

• ASCP Certification

Experience and Skills

• Technical Experience: 1 yr in healthcare setting

Physical Activities

• Intermittent hand manipulation required
• Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 lbs

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Performs procedures within the specialty of the supervising physician
• Provides assistance with the gross description and dissection (examination) of surgical tissues.
• Submits specimens for histological and other laboratory testing.
• Summarizes patients’ medical history.
• Relates and functions effectively with the medical community, lab, and other hospital staff
