Carlisle Construction Materials is seeking a Reliability Engineer Intern to support maintenance and engineering efforts focused on improving equipment reliability, uptime, and overall plant performance. This role provides hands-on exposure to Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) practices within a manufacturing environment.
The intern will act as a technical resource across maintenance, engineering, and operations teams, contributing to data-driven decision-making, preventative maintenance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for engineering students seeking practical experience in industrial reliability, maintenance systems, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of reliability and risk management strategies, including vibration analysis, lubrication, circuit evaluation, thermography, pressure differentials, and corrosion monitoring
- Assist in leveraging Industry 4.0 technologies and AI tools to monitor equipment health and predict potential failures
- Analyze work order (WO), breakdown, and Wonderware data to identify trends and prioritize root cause analysis (RCA) opportunities
- Partner with maintenance and production teams to improve standard work processes impacting equipment performance and product quality
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Planner to develop and standardize preventative maintenance (PM) procedures and work instructions
- Participate in PM optimization efforts and auditing of maintenance processes for effectiveness and compliance
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices through new tools, technologies, and techniques
- Support initiatives to modernize obsolete equipment and components by identifying suitable replacements
- Assist the Maintenance Scheduler in prioritizing backlog work orders based on operational needs and data insights
- Contribute to project engineering efforts by supporting project prioritization and building data-driven justifications
- Support Continuous Operating System (COS) improvement initiatives across the plant
- Assist in safety initiatives, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program management, procedure development, and compliance audits
- Ensure adherence to company and departmental policies within maintenance operations
- Complete additional assignments and projects as directed
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Foundational understanding of engineering, technical, and quality requirements in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with SAP/CMMS systems and purchasing processes (preferred)
- Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting tools (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret vendor manuals, technical drawings, and schematics
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with shop floor personnel, vendors, OEMs, and leadership
- Basic understanding of cost analysis and working within budget constraints
- Ability to document work through detailed reports and deliver clear presentations
- Demonstrated teamwork, organization, and planning skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently toward defined goals
- Willingness to learn and apply maintenance and reliability best practices
- Commitment to safety standards and procedures within an industrial environment
Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Prior exposure to industrial manufacturing or maintenance environments preferred
