Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Physics and Astronomy of Dickinson College invites applications for a one-year visiting position beginning July 2026. The physics major features a project-centered hands-on curriculum, and the Department graduates an average of ten majors per year.The Department is housed in a state-of-the-art building equipped with smart classrooms, research labs, a machine shop, a planetarium and an observatory.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy (or a related field) and will be expected to teach five courses over the academic year consisting of introductory physics and/or astronomy classes, with the possibility of also teaching an upper-level course. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate. Ideally, applicants will be able to engage undergraduate majors in research.
